When you access this website, information of a general nature is automatically collected. This information is recorded in the server log file and includes the type of web browser, the operating system used, the domain name of your internet service provider, address, and similar details.

This is done for the following reasons:

  • Ensuring a smooth connection to the website
  • Ensuring the smooth use of our website
  • Evaluating system security and stability, as well as for other administrative purposes

Your data will not be used to draw any conclusions about your person. Information of this kind is only statistically evaluated to optimize our website and the technology behind it.

Retention Period

The data will be deleted as soon as they are no longer necessary for the purpose of collection. This is generally the case for data that serve the provision of the website when the respective session is ended.

Comments

When visitors write comments on the website, we collect the data displayed in the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and the user agent string (which identifies the browser) to help detect spam. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible in the context of your comment.

Media

If you are a registered user and upload photos to this website, you should avoid uploading photos with EXIF GPS location data. Visitors to this website could download photos stored on this site and extract their location information.

Contact Forms

The data you provide will be stored for the purpose of individual communication with you. For this, it is necessary to provide a valid email address and your name. This information is required to assign the inquiry and subsequently respond to it. Providing additional data is optional.

Cookies

If you write a comment on our website, this may be considered consent to store your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is a convenience feature so that you do not have to re-enter all this data when you write another comment. These cookies are stored for one year.

If you have an account and log in to this website, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and will be discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will set up some cookies to save your login information and display options. Login cookies expire after two days, and cookies for display options expire after one year. If you select “Stay logged in” when logging in, your login will be maintained for two weeks. Logging out of your account will delete the login cookies.

When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal data and only references the post ID of the article you are currently editing. The cookie expires after one day.

Use of Script Libraries (Google Web Fonts)

To display our content correctly and in an aesthetically pleasing manner across different browsers, we use “Google Web Fonts” from Google LLC (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA; hereinafter “Google”) for font representation on this website.

You can find the privacy policy of the library operator Google here: https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/.

Embedded content from other websites

Posts on this website may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, posts, OneDoc, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking services, and record your interaction with this embedded content, including your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to this website.

Use of Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043 USA (hereinafter referred to as “Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies,” which are text files placed on your computer to help analyze how you use the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Due to the activation of IP anonymization on these websites, your IP address will be truncated by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activity, and to provide other services related to website and internet usage to the website operator. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other data from Google.

The purposes of data processing are to analyze the use of the website and to compile reports on activities on the website. Based on the use of the website and the internet, further related services are to be provided.

Use of Google Maps

On this website, we use the Google Maps service. Google Maps is operated by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (hereinafter referred to as “Google”). This allows us to display interactive maps directly on the website and enables you to conveniently use the map function. For more detailed information about data processing by Google, please refer to Google’s privacy notices. There, you can also change your personal privacy settings in the privacy center.

Use of Google reCAPTCHA

We use “Google reCAPTCHA” (hereinafter “reCAPTCHA”) on our websites. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, hereinafter “Google”. reCAPTCHA is used to check whether the data entry on our websites (e.g., in a contact form) is made by a human or by an automated program. To do this, reCAPTCHA analyzes the behavior of the website visitor based on various characteristics. This analysis begins automatically as soon as the website visitor enters the website. For the analysis, reCAPTCHA evaluates various pieces of information (e.g., IP address, the duration of the website visit, or mouse movements made by the user). The data collected during the analysis is forwarded to Google. The reCAPTCHA analyses run entirely in the background. Website visitors are not informed that an analysis is taking place.

Google Ads

Our website uses Google Conversion Tracking. The service provider for Google Ads is Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. If you have reached our website via an ad placed by Google, a cookie will be set on your computer by Google Ads. The conversion tracking cookie is set when a user clicks on an ad placed by Google.

If the user visits certain pages of our website and the cookie has not yet expired, we and Google can recognize that the user clicked on the ad and was redirected to this page. Each Google Ads customer receives a different cookie. Therefore, cookies cannot be tracked across the websites of Google Ads customers. The information obtained using the conversion cookie is used to create conversion statistics for Google Ads customers who have opted for conversion tracking. Customers learn the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a page tagged with a conversion tracking tag. However, they do not receive any information that can personally identify users.

Social Plugins

Our websites use social media plugins. Through these plugins, information, which may include personal data, might be sent to the service provider and potentially used by them. We prevent the unconscious and unintended collection and transmission of data to the service provider through a 2-click solution. To activate a desired social plugin, it must first be enabled by clicking the corresponding button. Only by activating the plugin is the collection of information and its transmission to the service provider triggered. We do not collect personal data ourselves through the social plugins or their use.

We have no control over what data an activated plugin collects and how it is used by the provider. It must currently be assumed that a direct connection to the provider’s services is established and at least the IP address and device-related information are collected and used. There is also the possibility that the service providers attempt to store cookies on the computer being used. Please refer to the privacy notices of the respective service provider for specific information on what data is collected and how it is used. If you are logged into Facebook at the same time, Facebook may identify you as a visitor to a specific page.

How long we store your data

If you write a comment, it will be stored indefinitely, including metadata. This way, we can automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our website, we additionally store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can view, modify, or delete their personal information at any time (the username cannot be changed). Administrators of the website can also view and modify this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this website or have written comments, you can request an export of your personal data from us, including all the data you have provided to us. Additionally, you can request the deletion of all personal data we have stored about you. This does not include data that we are required to retain for administrative, legal, or security-related reasons.

How We Protect Your Data

To protect the security of your data during transmission, we use encryption methods that correspond to the current state of technology (e.g., SSL) over HTTPS.

Changes

We may adjust this privacy policy at any time without prior notice. The version published on our website at any given time is the applicable one.

Questions for the Data Protection Officer
